A Cenote Bike Ride

My friend Ian Kelley wrote recently about an amazing place that visitors can ride their bikes to in Playa del Carmen and that’s the Cenote Chaak-Tun. The ride to Chaak-Tun Cenote is about 4-5 km each way from central Playa.  So make sure you have a bike that fits and that you are comfortable on. It’s really very simple to ride to the Cenote – just locate Avenida Juarez, which is the major street that leads to the ferry for Cozumel. Follow it west across the 307 Highway to the Ejido neighborhood. Continue to follow Juarez all the way to the Cenote.

This bike tour is awesome because there is a bike path on Avenida Juarez, west of 307.  Along the way, you’ll see many authentic and interesting restaurants and shops. The path is well lit at night and lined with beautiful bushes and flowers. When you reach the end of the paved road, continue on the dirt road past some Ranchitos. Just when you think you are in the middle of nowhere, you will see the Cenote on your right.

The price for admission is around $30 USD per person and maybe more if you want snorkel equipment. If you are not big into swimming and snorkeling, you can see most of the Cenote without swimming or renting additional equipment.  Water shoes are a great idea and bring flashlights! I encourage you to take a bike tour to Chaak-Tun Cenote during your stay in Playa Del Carmen.  Contact Ian for more information.
